Harley-Davidson’s first mass-produced electric motorcycle was called LiveWire.
The LiveWire began as a Harley-Davidson electric motorcycle project and entered production as the company’s first battery-powered model. It used an electric motor and rechargeable lithium-ion battery rather than an internal-combustion engine, while retaining motorcycle controls and a conventional two-wheel layout.
Harley-Davidson unveiled the LiveWire concept in 2014 and began selling the production model in 2019. The motorcycle marked a major departure from the company’s traditional air-cooled and liquid-cooled V-twin products.
In 2021, LiveWire became a separate company within the Harley-Davidson corporate structure. This later corporate development does not change the fact that the original motorcycle was introduced under the Harley-Davidson brand.
