What was C.S. Lewis’s birthplace in Ireland?
Answer
Belfast
Answer
Belfast
C.S. Lewis was born in Belfast, Ireland.
Clive Staples Lewis was born on 29 November 1898 at a house called Little Lea in the Strandtown area of Belfast. At the time, Ireland was part of the United Kingdom, and Belfast was a major industrial city in the north of the island.
Lewis spent his early childhood there before his family moved to England for his education. His Irish upbringing remained important to his imagination, and biographers often connect his early love of mythology, landscape, and storytelling with his childhood surroundings.
The location is sometimes confused with Oxford because Oxford became the place most strongly associated with Lewis’s adult career. He studied and taught at Oxford for many years, but Belfast was his birthplace. He later held a professorship at Cambridge as well.
