What was Bluehole Ginno Games renamed in September 2017?
Answer
PUBG Corporation
Answer
PUBG Corporation
Bluehole Ginno Games was renamed PUBG Corporation in September 2017. The reorganization separated PUBG development from Bluehole’s broader corporate structure as the game’s popularity accelerated.
Ginno Games had originally been founded by Kim Chang-han to develop massively multiplayer online games. Bluehole acquired the studio in 2015 and renamed it Bluehole Ginno Games. After the success of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, the company spun out the development operation as PUBG Corporation, with Kim serving as chief executive officer.
PUBG Corporation handled continued development, marketing, and international expansion for the game. It opened offices outside South Korea and later became responsible for related PUBG projects, helping turn a single breakout title into a broader business and entertainment property.
The name did not remain permanent. In December 2020, Krafton merged PUBG Corporation into its internal studio system and rebranded the team as PUBG Studios. That later name is why PUBG Studios is sometimes incorrectly given as the answer to a question about the 2017 renaming.
