Mít trộn is the Vietnamese dish of shredded young jackfruit mixed with shrimp, pork, herbs and crushed rice crackers.
The name means “mixed jackfruit.” Young jackfruit is boiled until tender, then pulled into strands and tossed with ingredients such as shrimp, pork belly, mint, Vietnamese coriander, peanuts, fried shallots and fish sauce. Crushed sesame rice crackers are often added just before serving for a dry, crisp contrast.
Mít trộn is particularly associated with central Vietnamese home cooking and street food. Its combination of mild jackfruit, savory meat or seafood, herbs and crunchy garnish reflects the region’s preference for layered textures and strongly seasoned dressings.
It is sometimes mistaken for a green-papaya salad because both are shredded and dressed with fish sauce. The key distinction is the use of boiled young jackfruit, whose fibrous texture remains recognizable after mixing.
