What university did Ted Mosby graduate from?

Ted Mosby graduated from Wesleyan University. In How I Met Your Mother, Wesleyan is where Ted meets Marshall Eriksen and Lily Aldrin during his undergraduate years, establishing the friendship that drives much of the series.

Ted studies architecture there and later builds his career in New York as an architect. His Wesleyan background also connects him to the show's creators: Carter Bays and Craig Thomas attended the university, and several details of Ted's college life draw on that shared experience.

A common mix-up is Columbia University. Ted later teaches architecture at Columbia, but he does not attend it as an undergraduate. Marshall also attends Wesleyan before going to Columbia Law School, which makes the two universities easy to confuse. The show repeatedly treats Wesleyan as the origin point for Ted, Marshall, and Lily's long-running friendship.
