What Unicode emoji is listed for jiaozi, the dumpling behind gyōza?

The story behind the answer

The Unicode emoji listed for jiaozi, the dumpling behind gyōza, is 🥟.

The emoji is officially named Dumpling and represents a folded stuffed dumpling. Its design is intentionally broad rather than tied exclusively to one national dish, so it can suggest jiaozi, gyōza, pot stickers, or other dumplings depending on context. Unicode lists it as U+1F95F.

The dumpling emoji was approved in 2016 and became part of Unicode 10.0 and Emoji 5.0 in 2017. It was championed by designer Yiying Lu and Jennifer 8. Lee after they noticed that dumplings had no dedicated emoji. The final design avoided a face or strongly regional styling so it could work across culinary traditions.

The alternatives are different food symbols: 🍥 is a narutomaki fish-cake spiral, 🍙 is a rice ball, and 🍜 is a bowl of noodles. None is the Unicode dumpling character.
