A traditional Catholic quinceañera may begin with a Mass.
This church service is often called a quinceañera Mass or a Misa de acción de gracias, meaning “Mass of thanksgiving.” It gives the family an opportunity to express gratitude and ask for blessings as the celebrant reaches her fifteenth year.
The religious portion is separate from the reception or party that may follow. A family can choose to include a church service, a secular ceremony, both, or neither. Catholic practice and parish requirements can differ, so the format is not identical everywhere.
A quinceañera Mass is not the same sacrament as baptism, confirmation, or marriage. It is a celebration or liturgy connected with the birthday milestone, not a sacrament that changes the celebrant’s legal status or church membership.
