A Catholic Mass is the type of religious service commonly held before a Catholic quinceañera reception.
This service is often called a Misa de acción de gracias, or Thanksgiving Mass. It gives the celebrant and family an opportunity to express gratitude and receive a blessing as the young person reaches 15. The service may take place in a parish church before the reception, although arrangements vary.
A quinceañera is not a sacrament of the Catholic Church. It is a cultural and religious celebration, and parish requirements can differ. Some churches request preparation sessions, registration, or participation in parish life before scheduling the Mass.
Not every quinceañera is Catholic or religious. Secular parties, Protestant services, and other family traditions also exist. Therefore, Catholic Mass is the best answer when the question specifies a Catholic quinceañera, rather than a universal requirement for every celebration called a quinceañera.
