A waltz traditionally forms the centerpiece of a quinceañera’s formal choreographed performance.
The quinceañera and her court often rehearse a formal waltz for presentation at the celebration. The dance may begin with the quinceañera’s father or another parent and then expand to include the court of honor.
Many modern celebrations add a second, more energetic choreographed dance, sometimes called a surprise dance. That performance can use contemporary pop, Latin, or other music, but it does not replace the traditional waltz’s ceremonial role.
The exact music and choreography vary considerably. Some families choose a song with personal meaning, while others use an instrumental waltz or a medley. The waltz is therefore the traditional form, not one universally required song.
