What type of celestial body is Pandora in the Saturn system?

The story behind the answer

Pandora is a moon of Saturn. It is a small, irregular satellite that orbits near Saturn’s narrow F ring and helps influence the ring’s structure through gravitational interactions.

Voyager 1 images led to Pandora’s discovery in 1980. The International Astronomical Union later approved the name Pandora, linking the moon to the figure from Greek mythology. Pandora is often discussed together with Prometheus, another small Saturnian moon that also affects the F ring and is named after a figure from Greek myth.

Pandora is not an asteroid, despite its small size and irregular shape. Asteroids generally orbit the Sun, while Pandora is gravitationally bound to Saturn. It is also distinct from the asteroid 55 Pandora, which is a separate object in the main asteroid belt.
