Jibanyan belongs to the Charming Tribe in Yo-kai Watch.

The Charming Tribe is one of the game series’ Yo-kai tribes, groupings that classify Yo-kai by shared themes, abilities, and visual or personality traits. Jibanyan, the cat-like Yo-kai and one of the franchise’s central mascots, is categorized as Charming rather than Brave, Shady, or Slippery.

Jibanyan’s design and characterization fit the tribe’s name: he is cute, expressive, highly recognizable, and often presented as an approachable companion despite his occasional impulsiveness. His battle role is not determined solely by his tribe, however. Yo-kai also have ranks, elemental affinities, stats, skills, attitudes, and individual moves, so tribe membership is only one part of building an effective team.

Jibanyan’s story begins with his life as a cat named Rudy and his death after running into a truck while trying to impress his owner, Amy. As a Yo-kai, he becomes Nate’s friend and repeatedly trains to defeat passing trucks. That origin explains both his cat appearance and his recurring Paws of Fury attacks, but it does not change his Charming Tribe classification.
