What track hosts the NHRA U.S. Nationals?
Answer
Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park
Answer
Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park
The NHRA U.S. Nationals are hosted at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park in Brownsburg, Indiana.
The facility’s drag strip was completed before its oval track, with the first event held in 1960. It was originally known as Indianapolis Raceway Park and later carried names including O’Reilly Raceway Park and Lucas Oil Raceway. In 2021, the venue announced the name Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park, which took effect for the 2022 season.
The U.S. Nationals moved to the Indianapolis facility from Detroit in 1961 and has been held there ever since. The Labor Day weekend event became the NHRA’s longest-running and most prestigious race, combining major professional categories with extensive sportsman competition.
A common mix-up is Indianapolis Motor Speedway, home of the Indianapolis 500. The two venues are separate facilities in the Indianapolis area. Raceway Park contains the quarter-mile drag strip used for the U.S. Nationals, while Indianapolis Motor Speedway is the much larger oval known as the Brickyard.
