What title was the TurboGrafx-16 CD port of the original Street Fighter released under?
Answer
Fighting Street
Answer
Fighting Street
The TurboGrafx-16 CD port of the original Street Fighter was released under the title Fighting Street. It brought Capcom’s 1987 arcade fighting game to NEC’s CD-based hardware rather than retaining the arcade title in its North American branding.
The port first appeared in Japan in 1988 for the PC Engine CD-ROM² System and reached North America in 1989 for the TurboGrafx-CD. Hudson Soft published the Japanese version, while NEC Avenue handled the North American release. Alfa System developed the conversion.
Fighting Street preserved the original game’s one-on-one structure, in which Ryu travels internationally to face opponents and Ken can appear as a second-player character. Because the TurboGrafx-CD lacked the arcade game’s six-button layout, attack strength was determined by how long the player held a button, echoing the pressure-sensitive deluxe arcade cabinet.
It is often confused with Street Fighter II’s many subtitle-based editions, such as Champion Edition and World Warrior. Fighting Street specifically refers to the home conversion of the first Street Fighter.
