What title did Japan give Emperor Hirohito's August 15, 1945, surrender speech?

The story behind the answer

Japan gave Emperor Hirohito's August 15, 1945, surrender speech the title Imperial Rescript on the Termination of the War. It was the formal imperial message broadcast to the Japanese public.

The rescript announced acceptance of the terms set out by the Allied powers. Hirohito referred to the use of a new and destructive bomb and to the broader wartime situation, but the message used courtly language rather than a simple modern declaration of surrender.

The speech was recorded on August 14 and broadcast at noon the following day. Its official title distinguishes the text from the radio program commonly known in English as the Jewel Voice Broadcast.

Hirohito later addressed the armed forces in a separate speech on August 17. That second message was not the same as the August 15 rescript heard by the general public.
