What three geometric shapes form the Mitsubishi Motors logo?

The story behind the answer

The Mitsubishi Motors logo is formed by three diamonds.

The red emblem consists of three rhombi arranged around a central point. Its design is associated with the Mitsubishi name: “mitsu” means three and “hishi” refers to a water chestnut, whose shape resembles a diamond. Over time, that name became connected with the three-diamond crest.

The emblem’s modern corporate use grew from the Mitsubishi group’s historical crest and was adopted by Mitsubishi Motors as a key brand symbol. The three shapes are usually shown in a balanced triangular arrangement, with their points meeting in the center.

They are often casually called three diamonds, although “rhombi” is the more geometric description. The mark should not be confused with the three-diamond emblems used by unrelated companies or sports teams.
