What theme was announced for the 2026 semiquincentennial half dollar?
Answer
Enduring Liberty
“Enduring Liberty” was announced as the theme for the 2026 semiquincentennial half dollar.
The coin is part of the United States Semiquincentennial coinage program, created for the 250th anniversary of American independence. Its obverse depicts the Statue of Liberty, while its reverse shows Liberty’s torch being passed from one generation to the next.
The imagery connects the coin’s title with the idea that liberty is preserved and transmitted across generations. The half dollar is one of the redesigned circulating denominations planned for the 1776–2026 coin program.
The theme should not be confused with “Liberty Over Tyranny,” which is associated with the 2026 semiquincentennial dime. The half dollar and dime therefore use different named concepts even though both belong to the same anniversary coin series.
