The traditional term for female attendants in a quinceañera’s court of honor is damas.
Damas is Spanish for “ladies.” In a formal court, damas may accompany the quinceañera during her entrance, presentation, photographs, and choreographed dances. They are often paired with chambelanes, the traditional male escorts.
The terms describe ceremonial roles, not legal or religious offices. A family may choose close friends, relatives, or classmates for the court, and the number of attendants can vary. Contemporary celebrations may also use mixed-gender groups or different titles.
Regional customs are especially important here. There is no single worldwide template for a quinceañera court, and many families simplify the tradition. Still, damas is the conventional Spanish term used in descriptions of the traditional female side of the court of honor.
