Telegram uses Topics to split large group discussions into subject-based sections.
Topics turn a large group into a forum-like space. Each subject gets its own conversation area, with separate chat history, shared media, and notification settings. A community can therefore discuss announcements, support, hobbies, or events without forcing every message into one continuous timeline.
Telegram introduced Topics as an expansion of its group system, rather than as a replacement for groups or channels. The underlying community remains a group, but members can choose the subject area relevant to them. Administrators can manage the feature and organize the available discussions.
The term “threads” can be confusing because Telegram also supports threaded replies to individual messages. Those replies provide context around one message; Topics are broader, persistent subject-based sections for an entire group. Channels are different again: they are broadcast feeds, not group discussion categories.
