The symbolic childhood doll presented in some quinceañera ceremonies is called the last doll.
The last doll represents the celebrant’s movement away from early childhood. In a traditional presentation, a parent or another important person gives the doll to the quinceañera as a symbolic reminder of the toys and stage of life she is leaving behind.
The ritual is commonly associated with the quinceañera’s other symbolic moments, including receiving a tiara, changing from flat shoes to high heels, or being presented with a bouquet. These customs are not identical everywhere and may be omitted or redesigned.
The last doll is therefore a tradition rather than a required object. Families may choose a personalized doll, a keepsake, or another gift that expresses the same idea of growing up.
