A last doll may be presented to a quinceañera as a symbol of leaving childhood behind.
The custom is known in Spanish as la última muñeca, meaning “the last doll.” In a traditional interpretation, the doll represents the celebrant’s childhood and the transition associated with turning 15. A parent, relative, or other important person may present it during the reception, sometimes alongside other symbolic gifts.
The ritual is not universal and does not mean that a 15-year-old must literally stop playing with dolls. Many families omit it or reinterpret it as a keepsake. It is also distinct from the changing-of-shoes ceremony, in which flat shoes may be replaced by dress shoes or heels.
