What Super Bowl team included Garner, Gannon and Rice?

The story behind the answer

The Super Bowl team that included Charlie Garner, Rich Gannon, and Jerry Rice was the Oakland Raiders. All three were members of the Raiders’ 2002 squad, which won the AFC Championship and reached Super Bowl XXXVII in the 2002 season.

Gannon was Oakland’s quarterback and won the NFL Most Valuable Player award for the 2002 regular season. Garner was a versatile running back who contributed both as a runner and receiver. Rice, already famous as a San Francisco 49ers star, joined the Raiders in 2001 and gave the veteran offense another elite receiving threat.

The Raiders lost Super Bowl XXXVII to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 48–21, on January 26, 2003. Gannon threw for 272 yards and two touchdowns but also had five interceptions. A common mix-up is to associate Rice only with the 49ers; by this Super Bowl, he was wearing Oakland’s silver and black. The franchise later relocated to Los Angeles and then Las Vegas, but this team was specifically the Oakland Raiders.
