Quidditch is the broomstick sport played in J.K. Rowling’s wizarding world. Two teams of seven players compete while flying around a magical field.
A Quidditch match uses four balls: one Quaffle, two Bludgers, and one Golden Snitch. Chasers try to put the Quaffle through one of three opposing hoops, while Beaters use bats to redirect Bludgers. Each team also has a Keeper and a Seeker.
The Seeker’s objective is to catch the Golden Snitch. Catching it usually earns 150 points and normally ends the match, although a team does not automatically win if it was already behind by more than 150 points.
Quidditch is distinct from other magical games in the books. Gobstones is another wizarding pastime, and wizard chess is a board game. Neither uses flying teams, hoops, and the four-ball match structure of Quidditch.
