Quidditch is the broomstick sport in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series.
Two teams of seven players compete in Quidditch. Each team has three Chasers, two Beaters, one Keeper, and one Seeker. Chasers try to score with the Quaffle, Beaters defend their teammates using bats against Bludgers, and Seekers pursue the Golden Snitch.
A goal through one of the opposing team’s three hoops is worth ten points. Catching the Golden Snitch awards 150 points and normally ends the match, although the team with the most points wins. Harry plays Seeker for Gryffindor at Hogwarts.
Quidditch is a fictional sport, but Rowling’s books inspired real-world versions played by mixed-gender teams on foot. Those modern organizations later adopted different names and rule systems, so fictional Quidditch and the real-world sport are related but not identical.
