What specialty does Dr. Eric Foreman lead in House M.D.?
Answer
Neurology
Answer
Neurology
Dr. Eric Foreman leads the neurology department in House M.D.
Foreman is one of Gregory House’s original diagnostic fellows and is portrayed by Omar Epps. His neurological expertise is particularly valuable because many of the show’s cases involve seizures, altered mental states, paralysis, movement disorders, or other problems affecting the nervous system.
Foreman often serves as the most intellectually competitive member of House’s team. He respects House’s diagnostic ability but also questions House’s methods and ethical choices. Over time, Foreman takes on increasing administrative responsibility at Princeton-Plainsboro and eventually becomes the hospital’s dean of medicine.
Neurology is sometimes confused with neurosurgery. Neurologists diagnose and medically treat disorders of the nervous system, while neurosurgeons perform operations involving the brain, spine, or related structures. Foreman’s role in the series is neurological rather than surgical.
