Chambelán is commonly used for a quinceañera’s male escort or dance partner.
A chambelán may be one of the young men in the court of honor, accompanying the celebrant during her entrance, photographs, and formal dance. The plural form is chambelanes. Depending on regional vocabulary, families may instead use terms such as escort or describe the participant without a special title.
The role is ceremonial and does not imply a romantic relationship. A chambelán can be a brother, cousin, friend, or classmate. Some celebrations include one principal escort, while others have several male court members paired with damas.
Quinceañera customs are flexible, so the position is not mandatory. Modern events may use a smaller court, a group of friends, or no court at all. The title is best understood as traditional event vocabulary rather than a universal rule governing every celebration.
