What Spanish word describes the male member of a quinceañera court?

The story behind the answer

A male member of a quinceañera court is called a chambelán.

Chambelanes are male attendants who may accompany the quinceañera during the entrance, formal photographs, and choreographed dances. The word is used in many Latin American quinceañera traditions, although regional terminology and the size of the court vary.

The role is ceremonial and does not mean that the chambelán is the celebrant’s romantic partner. A court can include relatives, friends, or other invited participants, and families decide who will serve according to their own customs.

The feminine attendants are commonly called damas. Together, damas and chambelanes may perform a rehearsed waltz or other routine. Some modern celebrations have mixed-gender groups, smaller courts, or no court at all, so the presence of chambelanes is traditional rather than universal.
