Chambelán is the Spanish word commonly used for a male attendant in a quinceañera court.
A quinceañera’s court of honor may include young men called chambelanes and young women called damas. The attendants can be relatives, friends, or classmates, and they often participate in a coordinated entrance, formal dances, and photographs.
The term is not identical everywhere. Some communities use regional words such as escort, acompañante, or honor attendant, while English-language celebrations may simply say “court.” The size and composition of the court also vary widely.
A chambelán should not be confused with a padrino. A padrino is a sponsor or ceremonial supporter, often an adult who helps provide an item or service, rather than necessarily being a teenage court member.
