Quinceañero is the Spanish term traditionally used for a male celebrating his 15th birthday in a comparable coming-of-age event.
The word is the masculine counterpart to quinceañera. Both terms are built from the quince- root connected with fifteen. English-language usage most often highlights quinceañeras for girls, but celebrations for boys also exist and may be called quinceañeros or quince años celebrations.
The customs are not identical everywhere. A family may choose a formal ceremony, a reception, a dance, or a personal celebration without following every traditional element. Clothing, attendants, religious observances, and symbolic rituals can all vary by community.
Quinceañero should not be confused with quinceañera as a general name for every fifteenth-birthday celebration. In some English-speaking communities, quinceañera is used broadly for the event regardless of the celebrant’s gender, while Spanish terminology distinguishes the masculine and feminine forms.
