The sponsors who help support a quinceañera are commonly called padrinos.
Padrinos, literally “godparents” or male sponsors in Spanish usage, are trusted relatives, friends, or community members who may contribute money, services, or specific items. Depending on local custom, they can help with the dress, cake, flowers, religious articles, venue, music, or other expenses.
The arrangement is not identical in every family. Some celebrations name padrinos for particular gifts, while others have no formal sponsors. The feminine term madrinas may be used for female sponsors, and couples can serve together.
Padrinos should not be confused with the court of honor. Court members are attendants who appear with the celebrant, while padrinos primarily have a sponsoring or support role. The two groups can overlap, but neither title automatically implies the other.
