Chambelán is the Spanish term commonly used for a male escort in a quinceañera’s court of honor.
A chambelán traditionally accompanies the quinceañera during formal entrances, photographs, and the choreographed presentation dance. Depending on the family and country, the court may include several male escorts alongside female attendants.
The word is not the same as padrino. A padrino is a sponsor or godparent-like supporter who may help pay for or organize parts of the celebration. A chambelán’s role is primarily ceremonial and participatory.
Terminology varies across Spanish-speaking communities. Some celebrations use regional titles or simply describe the participants as escorts, but chambelán is the widely recognized traditional term.
