The masculine counterpart of quinceañera for a boy celebrating his fifteenth birthday is “quinceañero.”
The word is formed from quince años, meaning “fifteen years,” with the masculine Spanish ending -ero. Quinceañera uses the feminine ending -era. In ordinary usage, quinceañera is much more widely recognized because the traditional celebration has historically centered on girls.
Some families and communities organize similar fifteenth-birthday events for boys, sometimes using quinceañero or quince años. The format is not standardized: a celebration may include a formal meal, dancing, family speeches, religious elements, or a large party.
Quinceañero should not be confused with chambelán, which refers to a male member of the celebrant’s court in some traditions. The former identifies the birthday celebrant; the latter describes a participant in the ceremony.
