The Spanish term often used for the male attendants who escort a quinceañera is “chambelanes.”
Chambelanes form part of the honoree’s court and commonly participate in the formal entrance, choreographed presentation, and dances. In some regions they are also called escorts, escorts de honor, or simply members of the court.
The word and the exact role vary across countries and families. Some celebrations use a mixed court, while others include only close friends or relatives. The number of attendants is not fixed, and modern quinceañeras may reduce or omit the court entirely.
Chambelanes should not be confused with padrinos. Padrinos are sponsors or adult supporters who may help provide ceremonial items or expenses, whereas chambelanes are attendants who appear in the formal program. The similarly named court of female attendants is often called damas.
