Quinceañero commonly names the male counterpart to a quinceañera celebration.
The word quinceañero uses the masculine form of the Spanish noun and can refer to a boy celebrating his fifteenth birthday in a comparable tradition. In English-language usage, quinceañera remains much more widely recognized because the celebration has historically centered on girls and young women.
Spanish gendered nouns do not by themselves determine every cultural practice. Families may use different names, adapt the rituals, or celebrate a boy’s fifteenth birthday without reproducing the full court, dress, or religious format associated with a traditional quinceañera.
The term should also be distinguished from cumpleaños, which simply means birthday, and padrino, which means godfather or sponsor. Those words describe a general birthday or a supporting role, not the male celebrant’s milestone.
