A chambelán is a male ceremonial escort in a quinceañera court.
The word describes one of the young men who may accompany the quinceañera during formal entrances, photographs, choreographed dances, and other presentation moments. A group of escorts is often called chambelanes, while the quinceañera may also be accompanied by female attendants known as damas.
The court is a social part of the event rather than a fixed religious requirement. Its size and composition vary widely. Some families choose relatives and close friends; others omit a court entirely or use a smaller group suited to the venue and planned choreography.
A chambelán should not be confused with a mariachi. Mariachi refers to a style of Mexican musical ensemble and its performers, whereas chambelán identifies a ceremonial role. The vocabulary also varies regionally, and English-language celebrations may simply call the participants escorts or attendants.
