Damas is the Spanish term commonly used for the female attendants in a quinceañera court.
The word damas means “ladies.” In the court, the damas accompany the quinceañera, often alongside male attendants called chambelanes. They may participate in the formal entrance, coordinated clothing, photographs, and choreographed dances.
The size and composition of the court are not fixed. A family may choose a large traditional court, a small group, or no formal court at all. Regional customs and personal preference strongly affect the arrangement.
Damas should not be confused with madrinas, who are sponsors or honored contributors in some celebrations. The terms describe different roles, though one person can sometimes hold more than one ceremonial connection to the family.
