The male escorts in a quinceañera’s court of honor are commonly called chambelanes.
A chambelán traditionally accompanies the quinceañera during formal parts of the celebration, particularly the entrance and choreographed dances. A court may include several male escorts alongside female attendants, although the size and composition depend on local custom and family preference.
The word is not used everywhere. In some countries or communities, male members of the court have different names, including honor-related terms used in English or local Spanish. That variation is one reason a quinceañera does not have a single universal format.
Chambelanes are not the same as padrinos. Padrinos are sponsors or godparents who may help support the event or provide ceremonial items, while chambelanes are participants in the formal court. Modern celebrations may also use a mixed-gender court or no court at all.
