The vals, or waltz, is traditionally featured as the main formal dance at a quinceañera.
The celebrant may perform the vals with members of her court, family members, or a designated partner. A choreographed presentation can be one of the reception’s central moments, especially when the court has rehearsed together. The music and choreography often reflect the family’s cultural background and personal taste.
Modern quinceañeras frequently add other dance styles, popular songs, and group routines. Those additions do not replace the traditional association between the celebration and the vals. Because customs vary, not every event includes a waltz, but vals remains the standard Spanish term for the formal dance tradition.
