The traditional formal dance at a quinceañera is commonly called a vals.
Vals is the Spanish word for waltz, and the dance often forms part of a choreographed presentation involving the quinceañera and members of her court. The performance may be rehearsed for weeks before the celebration.
The dance is a ceremonial feature, not a universal requirement. Many families choose contemporary music, regional styles, or a combination of a traditional waltz and modern choreography.
A quinceañera vals should not be confused with the entire reception. The party can include a meal, speeches, music, religious elements, and other dances in addition to the formal waltz.
