Answer
Hooked on a Feeling
The popular Oogachacka Baby variation used “Hooked on a Feeling.”
The Dancing Baby became especially famous in a version paired with Blue Swede’s recording of “Hooked on a Feeling.” The song’s repeated “ooga chaka” vocal opening gave this variation its familiar nickname, Oogachacka Baby, and helped propel the animation across websites and email during the late 1990s.
“Hooked on a Feeling” was originally written by Mark James and first recorded by B. J. Thomas in 1968. Blue Swede’s 1973 cover, released in the United States in 1974, used the chant-like introduction that became strongly associated with the baby meme. Blue Swede’s version reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The song later gained another wave of recognition through Reservoir Dogs and Guardians of the Galaxy. Those uses are separate from the Dancing Baby’s original online spread, but they explain why people who did not encounter the meme in the 1990s may still recognize the tune.
