The Carrefour logo hides a white letter C between its red and blue forms.
The emblem consists of two opposing colored shapes with a white gap in the center. That negative space creates the initial C for Carrefour, whose name means “crossroads” in French. The design therefore combines a letter with a visual idea of meeting or crossing paths.
Carrefour introduced the logo in 1966, several years after the company opened its first supermarket in France. Its strong colors and simple geometry helped the mark remain visible on store signs, packaging, shopping carts, and advertising.
The central shape is easy to overlook because it is formed by empty space rather than ink. Some viewers see a diamond, arrow, or abstract bow-tie when looking only at the colored halves. The intended hidden letter is the white C, while the surrounding forms give the logo its distinctive symmetrical appearance.
