Catholicism is especially associated with traditional quinceañera Masses.
Many quinceañeras among Catholic families include a thanksgiving service often called a quinceañera Mass or misa de quince años. The service may involve prayers, blessings, family participation, and thanksgiving for the celebrant’s life and future.
A Mass is not required for every quinceañera. The celebration is also held by families from other Christian traditions, other religions, and secular backgrounds. Religious customs can therefore differ substantially from one event to another.
The Catholic connection reflects the historical and cultural influence of Catholic communities in much of Latin America. It does not mean that every person who celebrates a quinceañera is Catholic or that the party itself is a Catholic sacrament.
