What religious ceremony may accompany a traditional Catholic quinceañera?

The story behind the answer

A quinceañera Mass may accompany a traditional Catholic quinceañera.

The Mass, also called a thanksgiving Mass in many descriptions, gives the family an opportunity to present the celebrant before the congregation and offer thanks for her life. Depending on local practice, the celebrant may renew baptismal promises, receive a blessing, or take part in other church traditions.

The religious service is not universal. Quinceañeras are also held by non-Catholic families, secular families, and families who choose only a reception. Even among Catholic families, the format varies by parish, country, and priest.

A quinceañera Mass should not be confused with baptism, confirmation, or marriage. It is generally a devotional celebration associated with a fifteenth birthday, not one of those sacraments. The reception, formal clothing, dances, and symbolic gifts usually take place separately from the church service.
