What region makes up 75% of Russia?

Siberia is the region that makes up about 75% of Russia’s territory.

This enormous geographic region stretches broadly east of the Ural Mountains toward the Pacific Ocean, although its exact boundaries vary by definition. The broad geographic concept of Siberia includes much of northern Asia within Russia and covers approximately 13.1 million square kilometers.

Siberia is famous for its severe climate, vast forests, mineral wealth, and low population density. It contains the taiga, one of the world’s largest terrestrial biomes, as well as major rivers such as the Ob, Yenisei, and Lena. Lake Baikal, the world’s deepest freshwater lake, is also in Siberia.

A common mix-up is treating Siberia as a separate country or a single Russian administrative division. It is a historical and geographic region, not one federal subject. Russia divides the broader area among several federal districts, including the Siberian and Far Eastern districts.
