What region is featured in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl?

Pokémon Diamond and Pearl are set in the Sinnoh region. The games were released for Nintendo DS and introduced the fourth generation of main-series Pokémon.

Sinnoh is based largely on Hokkaido, Japan’s northernmost major island. Its geography includes snowy routes, large lakes, forests, coastal areas, and Mt. Coronet, a mountain range that divides much of the region. The region’s northern setting gives it a colder atmosphere than many earlier Pokémon areas.

The games’ story follows a young Trainer who travels through Sinnoh, challenges Gym Leaders, and confronts Team Galactic. Legendary Pokémon Dialga and Palkia are central to the stories of Diamond and Pearl respectively.

Sinnoh is sometimes confused with Hisui, the historical version of the same land featured in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Sinnoh is the modern setting used by Diamond, Pearl, and their remakes, while Hisui represents the region in an earlier era.
