The recurring Final Fantasy creature that is a small winged mascot with a pom-pom is the Moogle.
Moogles are a sentient species usually depicted with pale fur, small bat-like wings, and a ball-tipped antenna called a pom-pom. Their appearance varies between games, but the combination of diminutive size, wings, antenna, and the catchphrase “kupo” makes them one of Final Fantasy’s most recognizable mascots.
Artist and designer Koichi Ishii created the concept from childhood sketches inspired partly by an all-white koala. Moogles first appeared in Final Fantasy III in 1990 as cave-dwelling creatures associated with the sage Doga. The pom-pom became a more established visual feature in later designs, especially Yoshitaka Amano’s work for Final Fantasy VI.
They are not always comic side characters. Depending on the game, Moogles can be playable party members, shopkeepers, messengers, save-point attendants, housekeepers, summoned creatures, or important citizens. Mog, Montblanc, Stiltzkin, and Artemicion are recurring named examples. They are sometimes confused with Chocobos or Cactuars, but those are separate recurring creatures with very different designs and roles.
