What phrase does Gregory House frequently repeat in House M.D.?

Gregory House frequently repeats the phrase “Everybody lies” in House M.D.

The line expresses House’s belief that patients, relatives, and colleagues routinely conceal information or distort events. Because an accurate history is essential to diagnosis, he treats hidden facts as a central medical problem.

The phrase became one of the show’s most recognizable lines and summarizes House’s skeptical worldview. It also supports the series’ mystery structure: the team must uncover the truth behind symptoms, statements, and incomplete medical histories.

The quotation is not a literal claim that every person lies constantly. In the show, it is House’s provocative generalization and a reason he often investigates beyond what patients initially tell doctors.
