What Philadelphia building, now called Independence Hall, hosted the 1776 Declaration debates and signing?

The story behind the answer

The Pennsylvania State House hosted the 1776 Declaration debates and signing; it is now called Independence Hall.

The building stood in Philadelphia and served as the meeting place of the Second Continental Congress. Congress debated independence there, approved the Declaration of Independence, and later signed the engrossed parchment copy primarily on August 2, 1776.

The name Independence Hall became associated with the building after the American Revolution because of its connection to independence. It was originally the Pennsylvania State House, the seat of Pennsylvania’s colonial legislature. The building also hosted the Constitutional Convention in 1787.

Independence Hall is part of Independence National Historical Park and is recognized as a major American historic site. Its neighboring Liberty Bell Center contains the Liberty Bell, but the bell and the hall are separate historic attractions.
