The Philadelphia 76ers player nicknamed “The Answer” during the 2005–06 NBA season was Allen Iverson. The explosive guard was the Sixers’ franchise star and primary scorer at the time.
Iverson was selected first overall by Philadelphia in the 1996 NBA draft after starring at Georgetown. Despite standing about 6 feet tall, he became one of the league’s most dangerous scorers through his speed, ball handling, fearless drives, and signature crossover. The nickname “The Answer” captured the belief that he could solve Philadelphia’s offensive problems.
During the 2005–06 season, Iverson averaged 33.0 points per game and 7.4 assists for the 76ers. He was selected to the 2006 NBA All-Star Game and remained the team’s centerpiece until Philadelphia traded him to the Denver Nuggets in December 2006.
Iverson’s defining Sixers season came earlier, in 2000–01, when he won the NBA Most Valuable Player award and led Philadelphia to the NBA Finals. The franchise retired his No. 3 jersey in 2014, cementing his place in team history.
