What Open Era distinction did Orlando Luz and Rafael Matos achieve at the 2026 Cincinnati Open?

The story behind the answer

Orlando Luz and Rafael Matos became the fifth team in the Open Era to complete the Summer Sweep at the 2026 Cincinnati Open.

The Summer Sweep means winning the ATP Masters 1000 doubles events in Canada and Cincinnati in the same season. Luz and Matos completed that sequence after winning in Montreal and then taking the Cincinnati title.

Their Cincinnati victory came against Constantin Frantzen and Robin Haase. The Brazilian pair won the championship match in a deciding match tiebreak, adding Cincinnati to a successful 2026 season that also included titles in Buenos Aires and Santiago.

The Open Era began in 1968, when professional and amateur players were allowed to compete together in major tennis tournaments. Historical records using the term therefore count achievements from that period rather than from the entire pre-1968 history of the sport.
