In the traditional “last doll” ceremony, a quinceañera may receive a doll.
The doll is commonly known in Spanish as the última muñeca, meaning “last doll.” It symbolizes the end of childhood and is sometimes presented by a parent, godparent, or another close relative during the celebration.
The ritual is not universal. Some families include a doll presentation, while others choose a different symbolic gift or skip the custom altogether. The object may be specially dressed to match the quinceañera’s theme and can later become a keepsake.
The “last” wording is symbolic rather than a rule that the celebrant must never own or receive another doll. As with the shoe-changing ritual, its meaning comes from the broader coming-of-age story attached to the fifteenth birthday.
